I'm not quite sure how it happened. I don't remember ever saying, "OK, I'll take him." But I guess I did.(That's what sleep deprivation does for you.)
My son had been asking for a dog ever since our Black Lab, Sassy, passed away last July. "Give it some time. Not in an apartment. Another dog won't replace Sassy." The usual arguments. But then a friend needed to find a new home for Marley - and he seemed the perfect size for an apartment and we knew him already and he loved us already. So, now, we have made room for Marley... (I have never yet named a dog - at 40 years of age. The dogs always just happen and already have a name.)
Not quite a week yet, but we're all slowly adjusting. This morning, I actually got to sleep until 6:30 before the morning walk! Marley got his first haircut on Friday and we have the first vet appointment set up. We've got "sit" covered and we "stay" sometimes (unless there's a cat around).
And, today, as long as the weather holds...Marley's first canoe ride! Stay tuned... ;)
