The award-winning independent short film Katrina's Wake features three Jackson residents: Jocelyn Amos as the mamma, De'Ja Evans as daughter and Johnathan Jackson as son. Katrina's Wake is a fictional story of a family who seeks refuge in their attic from the flood waters of Hurricane Katrina.
The film is playing at festivals across the country and will be screened in Memphis at 2:45 p.m. Oct. 15 at Muvico Peabody Palace.
Mississippi native Kathilynn "Kat" Phillips, who resides in Philadelphia, Pa., wrote and directed the film. The setting is New Orleans' Lower Ninth Ward. The film was shot in Tupelo, Miss. It earned an honorable mention at the Rhode Island International Film Festival.
