In honor of Mother's Day, our Carnival this week will be peppered (and salted too) with Mom-isms.
"If you're too sick to go to school, you're too sick to play outside."
So play inside with George Stratton's Peanut Butter Play-Doh. Finally, crafts for the kids with enjoyable clean-up! Just pop it in your mouth. ;)
"I'm doing this for your own good."
Dr. Fuhrman gives us globally inspired salad recipes from his book, Cholesterol Protection for Life. Try his Indian Mango Salad, Greek Chick Pea Salad, and Salad with Spicy Russian Dressing. It's truly for your own good!
Trub promises this Sambar recipe is "vegetarian and nothing but good for you." (And you know mom would love the fact that you are branching out and trying new foods.)
Peggy at Blabber Heads offers up Vegetarian Avocado Tacos - and reminds us that the avocado's “good fat” content will lower your bad cholesterol by 8%, while raising your good cholesterol by 15% in just a few weeks. As Mom would say, "Don't be shy. Go over and introduce yourself."
Vegetarian Food Recipe gives us Indian Coconut Curry. "Be healthy, be vegetarian!" is the site's motto. "Eat your vegetables" is Mom's.
Mensa Barbie offers up a Risotto Delicata chock full of good stuff, from squash to arborio rice. Mom would be so proud!
"Cupcakes are NOT a breakfast food!"
Nerd Family contributes a breakfast recipe that would even pass mom's muster - Basic Cheesy Breakfast Casserole.
The Common Room's Potato Omelette can be served for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Mom would love that!
"If you're too full to finish your dinner, you're too full for dessert."
Knowing these desserts are waiting will definitely make you want to finish your dinner...
Laura Rebecca's Kitchen tempts us with her Mango Ginger Buttermilk Ice Cream. The recipe is adapted from a famous mother...Martha Stewart.
Coffee & Tea offers up Choco Biscotto - the perfect opportunity to sit and chat with Mom a spell over a nice cup of coffee. (And Mom would love the history lesson she added as well.)
"All I do is follow you around, picking up after you like some maid."
A Weight Lifted reminds us to give mom a break on Mother's Day with this delicious and easy-to-make bananas with strawberry sauce recipe - which is also full of nutrition. (And Mom would probably encourage you to check out their full collection of healthy recipes.)
If your mom prefers chocolate, KeeWee's Corner says we should bake Mom these Rich 'N Creamy Brownie Bars on Mother's Day.
Or throw Mom a party to show your appreciation. The BBQ General offers Pulled Pork for 40 People.
"When I was your age, I had to walk ten miles through the snow, uphill, by myself, to go to school."
But at least she did get to eat Great Granny's Tea Cakes when she got home. (Our Full House was kind enough to share her British great granny's recipe.)
"Close the door. You don't live in a barn!"
Men in Aprons offers up some barnyard fare with their Grilled Frontier Steak. (Men, start your grills. And don't forget to wash your hands, as Mom would say.)
Spark It Up!!! gives us Baked Ziti with Sausage and Veggies. (And this is a recipe that Kilo got from his godmother.)
"Don't EVER let me catch you doing that again!"
I'm sure that's what Kevin's mom would say when she heard about his New Orleans escapades. But he was a Seriously Good boy...he brought us back a recipe for New Orleans' famous Muffaletta sandwich anyways.
"Enough is enough!"
I love lasagna, but I do get bored with the traditional recipe now and again. Recently, I tried this Mexican Lasagna recipe, which uses corn tortillas instead of pasta and puts a Mexican spin on the Italian favorite. (And Moms love that it's quick and easy to make.)
"I will always love you - no matter what."
Give Mom back some of the joy she has brought to your life with Riannan's I'm In Joy coconut chocolate bites.
The next Carnival of the Recipes will be hosted by PractiGal. Get your recipes in by 12 p.m. CST on Saturday to make sure they get in. E-mail blog links to [email protected]. If you wish to host, send an e-mail to the same address with Host in the title. For a complete listing of upcoming hosts, visit our Blog Carnival page. (You can also browse past Carnivals there too.)

Great job on the carnival! LOL, the mom-isms are so great! I especially love the last one. But let's not forget the two favorite comebacks to any argument: "Because I'm the mom" and "Because I said so!"
