Elvis' Jungle Room (from Simon's Diary)
Graceland is never busier than in mid-August during the Aug. 16 anniversary of Elvis' death. The time has become an unofficial holiday in the entertainer's honor and a full week - this year Monday, Aug. 16, is proclaimed Elvis Week.
On the eve of his death, Aug. 15, thousands walk from Graceland's circular driveway to his gravesite in the Meditation Gardens behind the house, then back to the front gate as part of a candlelight ceremony.
Activities set for Elvis Week include Elvis Big Screen Videos Outdoors in Graceland Plaza, Elvis Art Contest & Exhibit, Club Elvis Party, Walk A Mile In My Shoes: An All Elvis City of Memphis Tour, Georgia Klein's Elvis Reunion, 2nd Annual Elvis Film Festival and the annual candlelight vigil.
