Folks in Lincoln County are working to "Save the Haven" Theater. The Save the Haven Committee is working to renovate and preserve the old movie theater located in downtown Brookhaven. The Haven is said to be Mississippi's second-oldest theater that still opens its doors to the performing arts.
The building is structurally sound but needs renovating. Estimates for the work have been between $100,000 and $150,000. Roof work will cost $35,000. Also planned is an electrical system upgrade and upgrades in lighting and sound.
The first Save the Haven fund-raising project is a children's summer drama camp at the theater during the weeks of July 18 and 25. The two-week camp is for children in grades 1-6. The cost is $100 for two weeks and $75 for one week.
