Phase III of the STACK is moving along but will cause delays for commuters in the Jackson area.
According to officials at MDOT, the loop to access I-20 from Hwy 49 is CLOSED to traffic until mid-July for the construction of a new fly-over bridge. Hwy 49 northbound motorists are asked to use the left turn lanes at the stoplight if needing to access the Interstate.
In addition, one exit lane of I-20 leading onto I-55 North will be temporarily closed. This lane closure will also be in effect until mid-July.
Construction began on Phase I of the STACK project in 1992 with a total cost of $7 million and continued to Phase II, a $30.2 million project beginning in 1997. The current phase, a $58 million project, began in mid-March of 2003 and expected to be complete in December of 2006.
