Good morning. Happy Monday!

I've made a decision this weekend (after enjoying a completely unplugged weekend of reading books, staring at the water from my patio and actually enjoying myself). My blog is going to change. I'm not stopping, but I'm no longer sticking to my six posts a day. I may not even post once a day. I don't know. I'm going back to posting when something strikes my fancy (but, not to worry, 'cause nearly everything strikes my fancy).

But I hope to make time to write longer posts about things that are important to me, things that excite me, things that I want to learn more about. (And the really cool stuff from the catalogs I love too, of course!)

I'm officially giving you notice... ;)

Today is National Black Cow Day. So enjoy...

A Black Cow Float

2 scoops vanilla ice cream
10 oz Coke
1 tbsp chocolate syrup
1 1/2 oz whipped cream
maraschino cherry

Pour Coke over ice cream and chocolate syrup in a fountain glass. Garnish with whipped cream and a maraschino cherry. Serve with a straw and a long spoon.

I felt so bad Friday that I actually did not go out of town, but I took a much needed break. It seems like getting sick gives me an excuse to do nothing - and I obviously need an excuse. I left work at noon on Friday and slept all day and watched chick flicks all night. And, voila, I was cured! ;)

Today, in 1934, Donald Duck got his debut in The Wise Little Hen. However, in The Three Caballeros (1944), his birthday is given as simply "Friday the 13th", which is in reference to the bad luck he experiences in almost all his cartoon appearances.

And there's a Friday the 13th at the end of this week - so it's obviously Donald's week!

On this day in 1956, Elvis Presley introduced his new single, "Hound Dog", on The Milton Berle Show, scandalizing the audience with his suggestive hip movements.

From his performance on Milton Berle's Texaco Star Theatre he got the nickname Elvis the Pelvis - which worried the family-minded Ed Sullivan. By the third performance, Sullivan decided to "crop" Elvis. Thus, the now famous "from the waist up only" appearance on the Sullivan show. It is estimated that one of these Sullivan performances was viewed by 52 million people - one out of every three Americans.

Today, in 1917, the first Pulitzer Prizes are awarded: Laura E. Richards, Maude H. Elliott, and Florence Hall receive the first Pulitzer for biography (for Julia Ward Howe). Jean Jules Jusserand receives the first Pulitzer for history for his work With Americans of Past and Present Days. Herbert B. Swope receives the first Pulitzer for journalism for his work for the New York World.

And I should get a Nobel Peace Prize, because I'm going back for more punishment with Cub Scouts today. I'm volunteering for the day at the Cub Scout Day Camp Quentin is attending. So I'm taking the day off in observance. I'll need to rest up!
