The Rankin County Historical Society's oral histories project is recording the stories of Rankin County World War II veterans in a joint effort with the Brandon Public Library and the University of Southern Mississippi. Jerry Willis of Pelahatchie has been conducting the interviews.
In a typical interview, which lasts about an hour, he'll ask the veterans about their experiences growing up and during the war. Responses are recorded on audio and video high-definition recordings. The audio is sent to the Brandon Public Library for storage. Copies are sent to USM and the Library of Congress for transcription and storage.
Anyone interested in participating in the project can call Anne Vanderleest at the Brandon Public Library at (601) 825-2672.
