    Madmen and poets

    Ba_absinthe07_053_ra

"After the first glass, you see things as you wish they were. After the second, you see things as they are not. Finally you see things as they really are, which is the most horrible thing in the world."
    ~Oscar Wilde

Henri Schmidt, a French druggist, said absinthe led straigh to the madhouse or the courthouse. And since some days those seem like pretty good alternatives, we can buy absinthe again in the U.S. after being banned for nearly 100 years.

Death in the Afternoon is an absinthe cocktail recommendation. It's half absinthe, half champagne.

St. George Spirits will begin selling 3,600 bottles of its Absinthe Verte at its Alameda tasting room and at limited liquor stores for $75 for a 750 ml bottle.
