Mary Clare Sherwood was born in Lyons, New York, and died in Vicksburg, Mississippi. She was a painter that mostly worked in the medium of oil or watercolor. She mainly painted landscapes of the regions were she was living.
In Vicksburg, she chaired the Art Department at the All Saints College, while maintaining an active career as artist. She regularly exhibited at the Southern States Art League, National Association of Woman Painters and Sculptors and Southern States Art League.
