This Saturday marked the eighth anniversary of the Barnyard Opry in Brandon. And I was there for the first time (but definitely not the last).
When the music started, Mr. Joyner said it was time to dim the theatre lights. And the audience started pulling these light bulb lamps to make them go out - it cracked me up.
I guess because I had a nice camera with me, someone decided I was with a newspaper. After one song, Mr. Joyner said, "We've got people taking pictures here tonight. What newspaper are you from?" I was good and didn't say The New York Times. I kept my mouth shut for once. (And I didn't think anyone there would know what the Everything and Nothing blog was - so I didn't get into it!) ;)
The Barnyard Opry started out eight years ago in a three-stall barn that could cram in 20 or 30. After many additions and much hard work, the Barnyard Opry can now sit 250. The Country Sound Band remains the same, but guest entertainment (the second half of the show) rotates.
And it's always free. (A hat is passed around for them to pay the power bill for the barn, but there is no cover charge.)
