From doggy day care to pet hotels and bakeries, our pets are holding an increasingly elevated status in our households. And not only are they treated anthropomorphically now, they also seem to be named so.
Consider that the most popular pet name for new puppies in 2004 was not Fido or Spot - according to PetData, Inc., it was Max. For girl puppies, the favorites were Maggie and Molly. Bella, Sophie, Lily and Oliver are also in the Top 100. (There's even a word for this trend - pets are now furkids.)
And now that the pets have the kids' names, it seems that the kids are getting the pet names. Destiny, Chance, Jupiter and Freedom - all of which could possibly be pet names - are actually popular kid names now.
I don't know whether to laugh, cry or howl. ;)
