Starting in February, Canadian tour operator Horizon & Co. is offering a way for diamond lovers to avoid "conflict diamonds" from Africa by buying their diamonds in Canada during their Winter Ice trip. The five-night expedition begins in the northwest in Yellowknife, where you're met at the airport with arctic gear and flown to the Blachford Lake Lodge. The next day you take off on a dogsled to a luxury campsite to catch a view of the northern lights.
The final stage is all about the rocks. After traveling back to Yellowknife, you will get a diamond tutorial, practice cutting stones and tour a diamond factory. You can meet the person who cut your rock (if you pre-order) or choose your own diamond in the rough (or, of course, shop from thousands of precut stones).
The cost is $2,985. Diamonds not included.
