Go Gonzo

Good people drink good beer.
~ Hunter S. Thompson
Denver's Flying Dog Brewery has released a Hunter S. Thompson tribute beer, Gonzo Imperial Porter. It is a turbo-charged version of the brewery's Road Dog Porter and is sold in four-packs of 12-oz bottles illustrated by Thompson's friend, Ralph Steadman, featuring the gonzo journalist as a cowboy-hat-wearing, cigarette-smoking skeleton exclaiming, "Let's Party!."
The artist, who has designed all of Flying Dog's labels, was a friend of Thompson's and illustrated many of Thompson's books, as well as his articles for Rolling Stone.
The limited-edition beer is brewed with black, chocolate and crystal malts and weighs in at 9.5% alcohol by volume.
Proceeds will help fund a 150-foot-tall, fist-shaped memorial to Thompson in Aspen. ($8.99 for 4 bottles here)
And according to Bob Townsend at ajc.com, it will be best paired with serious after-dinner sipping and ruminating and dark-flavored desserts such as chocolate cake, espresso brownies and coffee ice cream.
