I am OK. Thanks so much to all of you for your concern.
We do have a very old and very large sycamore tree on one side of our house, so we are now at a hotel. (On the bright side, it has Internet and airconditioner. No power or no phones at my house.)
We had 100 mph winds in Jackson on Monday, which is unprecedented. I have pictures (of course) but I will be busy for a while with work coordinating with hospitals who need help and those who can help. I will post here sporadically about hurricane-related information, but I'm afraid I won't be much fun for the next few weeks.
My parents, grandparents and brother are in Milton, Florida, and are OK according to my aunt in Chicago. But the reality is that none of them probably have anything to come home to. My parents live within walking distance of the beach in Waveland and my brother in Gulfport. It's not a pleasant thought.
My best friend and her family stayed and I have not been able to reach her. The last time I talked to her, she called right after the tree fell on our house. All she told me is that her house in Ocean Springs had two feet of standing water when they left. They were at a neighbor's two-story house and were holed up on the second floor.
I will keep all of you updated. Thanks again to all of my blogger friends for your thoughts and prayers. It really has meant the world to me.
Love,
Shawn.
