Fleet Feet Sports Jackson 4th Annual Turkey Trot

70

I'm heading to the Coast for Thanksgiving, but for you half-crazy folks who want to go for a run on Thanksgiving day, Fleet Feet Sport is hosting their 4th annual Turkey Trot at 7 a.m. on Thanksgiving. It's a 9-mile run, out and back.

They ask that everyone bring a non-perishable food item as your "entry fee." Items collected will be donated to Stewpot Community Services. (Recommended items include canned fruits and vegetables, peanut butter, pasta, tuna fish and healthy snack foods. They will celebrate afterwards with food and refreshments.) For more information, e-mail Alisha at alisha@fleetfeetjackson.com.

If you go, send us some pictures for the blog! ;)

p.s. I am thankful for all of the new half-crazy friends I have made since we started this in April. I'm also thankful for Susan - who was brave enough to tell us about her half-crazy idea for a half-crazy marathon club. The rest is history! Happy Thanksgiving to all of you and yours.

From Half-Crazy to Half-Crippled

Halfcrazysusan

Our fearless leader, Susan Christensen, has gone from half-crazy to half-crippled for not properly taking care of her IT band issues. (For you computer nerds, this has nothing to do with network issues.) Susan wound up limping the last three miles of Saturday’s run/walk and is now on the disabled list. Per her therapist’s orders, she is not to run until the half-marathon in Memphis.

Fear not, though, the half-crazy training will continue with a 12-miler this Saturday at 6:30 a.m. Sandy Davis has taken over water duties. (We’ll figure out a 13-miler, too, in case some of you want to go all the way before the half-marathon.)

Half-Crazy and All-Cold

Halfcrazy2small

We had a great crew at the Lake Caroline 15K, and it was a great lesson for running in the cold. I found out that an XXL sweatshirt can weigh you down when you tie it around your waist. Susan was reminded of why she doesn’t like running in long sleeves.

But all and all it was a fun time – especially for Chris, who placed third in her age group with a 1:24:30 finish. (Congratulations, Chris!)

Other Half-Crazy times:
Kristen Hendrix - 1:26:35
Shannon Coker – 1:27:40
Kelly Shannon – 1:28:29
Donna Oglesby – 1:37:24
Kelly Hicks – 1:57:14
Sandy Davis – 1:59:04
Susan Christensen – 2:02:12
Shawn Lea – 2:02:13

Pam Butts was also there but opted not to finish because of a cold-induced case of shortness of breath. She stayed around, though, to cheer us all in and take pictures, which we all sincerely appreciated.

Congratulations to T’Knesha and Michelle who finished the Marine Corps Marathon in 5:55 and 5:33 respectively on Oct. 29. Let’s hear it for the girls!
